Spending the Day at Marathon Village

I opened my store in Marathon Village a couple of months ago and I've loved being here! I wanted to highlight some of the other shops and show you how much there is to do here.

A little about the history of the buildings from www.marathonvillage.net:

"Marathon Village is a neighborhood born out of the buildings that once housed Marathon Motor Works (1910-1914). The company started in Jackson, Tennessee in 1907. It was the first factory to totally manufacture automobiles in the southern United States and the only one to do so until General Motors made the Saturn in 1990.

Beginning with the purchase of his first building here in 1986, owner Barry Walker has supported a thriving creative community and made a center for commercial, performing, and visual arts."

You can still see some of this history in the hallways which are filled with machinery and photos. There are even some original cars across the street at the Marathon Motor Works Museum.

If I were spending a day here here's how it would go:

Barista Parlor: Stop in for a cup of coffee and a pastry to fuel your day.

Antique Archeology: (aka the American Pickers store) look through some of the finds they've picked on the show.

Pure Salon: pamper yourself at this toxin-free salon. They offer services from hair to nails.

Southern Engine Deli: All that relaxing is sure to make you hungry! Grab lunch here; my favorite is the B.L.T. because it's piled high with bacon.

Bang Candy Company: Grab some tasty dessert here! They make everything in house and offer packaged sweets that you can take home with you.

Safe House Tattoo: If you happen to be looking for a great place to get tattooed while you're in Nashville.

Shopping

Grab a souvenir from Market Street Mercantile or a local printed t shirt from Screened Threads.

Visit Paige Barbee Jewelry (of course!). If you're a jewelry lover there are also local jewelry stores Vincent Peach, Island Cowgirl, and Lorraine Francis to suit any style you prefer.

If you're looking for unique finds for your home visit Ogallery for local art, The Faded Farmhouse for cozy decor, or D. Luxe Home for pieces to kick your style up a notch.

There is no shortage of places to grab a drink here at Marathon Village! Tennessee Legend Distillery offers free tastings of their whiskey and moonshine. Corsair Distillery has two bars; one serving up high gravity beers and the other spirits. They also offer tours and tastings (say hello to Pizza their resident cat for me!). If you're more of a wine fan Grinder's Switch has a variety of wines. Stop in for a wine tasting or wine and cheese paring. On a hot day be sure to grab one of their wine slushies!

At the end of the day stop by Third Coast Comedy Club for a show or Marathon Music Works for a concert.

Whew, what a day!

I hope you'll come visit us on your next trip to Nashville, stop in and say hello!
